There are a lot of variety of dog clothes and accessories that are available for our dogs, but choosing the right size can be a little bit confusing. And proper fit of clothing is important for dogs. Wearing anything on their bodies is a new thing for them, they will not be comfortable with the experience if they feel their movement is hindered. Improper size or fit of clothing for them can be dangerous too. If too tight, they can impair blood circulation or interfere with natural movement and breathing while clothing that are too loose can create safety hazards by tangling in your dogs' legs or falling down over their eyes. And just like us, individual dogs vary in size and physique. Not all dogs have the same size especially for those toy dogs and the larger breed dogs. You can't put a toy dog clothes to a large breed dog and vice versa. Size ranges such as small, medium and large and also extra large. They only truly accurate way to choose the right size of garments for your dog is to use your dog actual measurements. Just like in human, there are certain key measurements for each type of dogs. So I have written an article for you to take as a reference on measuring your dog size to have a proper fit of clothes.

There are three basic measurements o f a dog's body, and these are Topline, Girth which is the chest and Neck. These are the measurements that you will be needing for most dog clothes such as shirts, coats and as well as for dog collars.

The Topline is the length of your dog's back. This is the common measurement for clothing. Measure the length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. This measurement will determine where the garment will stop along the back. However, you must remember that the back length will not matter if the chest measurement is not appropriate. You can use this more as a guide to how low you shirt or dress will be on your dog's back.

The Girth also known as the chest. Measure your dog chest all the way around, directly behind the front legs and around the back. This is generally the most important measurement for clothing. If it is too small, it will not fit your dog. While if it's too big, your dog will not able to walk comfortably.

The neck is measured at the place where your dog's collar would naturally rest. Measure around your dog's neck with just enough room added as you feel is necessary for them to be comfortable. Remember that it must not be too tight or your dog will choke that's why a comfortable distance around your dog's neck is needed.

Remember that if measurements fall between two sizes, please select the larger size. It's better to choose the larger size than the smaller size. So that when your dog grow, the larger size apparel will be perfect fit to them.
